This qualification is suitable and popular with wine employees and will give students excellent all round knowledge. The course is also suitable for the interested consumer.

The aim of the course is to focus on the key grape varieties and regions of the world, and training with how to taste professionally. Successful students will receive a certificate and a WSET Level 2 Award in Wines lapel pin.

Programme outline

Wine Tasting: Learn how to taste professionally using the WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine. During the course you will taste at least 40 wines.

Wine Making: How wine is made and other factors influencing the style of wine

Grape varieties: Learn about the characteristics and styles of wines produced from the key black and white grape varieties

Wine Regions: Learn about the main styles of wine from the key wine producing regions of France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, U.S.A., Chile, Argentina, S. Africa, Australia, & New Zealand.

Labelling terminology: Learn how to read a wine label, and the key information which it gives you.

Sparkling, sweet and fortified wines: Understand how these wines are made and other factors influencing their style

Food & wine pairing: A guide to the key considerations when pairing food and wine successfully

Duration of course: 8, two hour sessions followed by the examination

Examination: 50 multiple choice questions to be answered. The pass mark is 55%
